There are moments in life we think we will remember forever. The way your partner looked at you. The feeling of getting ready for something important. The perfume you wore on your wedding day. The dress you felt beautiful in. The sound of someone’s laugh. The way life felt during a season you didn’t realize you would one day miss.
But the truth is, we forget the little things.
Not because they weren't important. Sometimes, we forget because life keeps moving. Months pass, and then years. People grow and change. Seasons of life come and go, and suddenly, the ordinary moments we thought we would always remember become a little harder to reach.
That is where photographs come in.
As a photographer, I believe photographs can be more than something beautiful to look at. They can be a doorway back to a moment. You see an image, and suddenly, you remember how you felt. You remember the people who were there. You remember the joy, the nostalgia, the gratitude, the love, and the comfort. You remember a version of yourself that you may not have thought about in years.
And for a moment, you are back there.
The Little Moments Are Often the Ones We Forget
When people think about having their photos taken, they often think about the big moments first: the first kiss, graduation, a wedding day, a milestone, or another important celebration. And those moments are beautiful. But sometimes, the photographs we are most grateful for years from now are the moments we didn't think were important enough to remember.
The belly laughs. The funny looks you give your partner. The way your mom looked at you during your senior session. The little details of a wedding day. The way you felt in the dress you wore. The perfume you wore on a day that changed your life. The way someone reached for your hand without thinking about it.
The moments that happen in between the moments we planned are often the ones that become the most meaningful.
Those are the memories that can be surprisingly easy to forget—and incredibly powerful to remember.
You Don't Have to Look Perfect to Be Worth Photographing
I think one of the biggest things people worry about when they get in front of a camera is how they look. Is my posture okay? Do I look awkward? Am I standing weird? Am I making a strange face?
You don't have to look perfect in every photograph. You don't have to have perfect posture. You don't have to know exactly what to do with your hands. You don't have to look at the camera and smile in every image.
Sometimes, the belly laugh is the best part. Sometimes, the funny look you give your partner is the photograph you end up loving most. Sometimes, the moment you weren't thinking about how you looked is the moment you look the most like yourself.
Those imperfect moments are often what make a photograph feel real. Whether I'm photographing a senior, a couple, a family, or a wedding day, my goal isn't to make you look like someone else. It's to create space for you to feel comfortable enough to be yourself.
Your Photos Should Help You Remember How Life Felt
When you look at a photograph years from now, you may not remember every detail of the day it was taken. But maybe the photograph will help you remember how happy you were. Maybe it will remind you of the person standing next to you. Maybe you will remember what life felt like during that season.
Maybe you will feel grateful for the people who were there. Maybe you will feel nostalgic for a version of life that has changed. Maybe you will simply feel comforted by seeing a familiar face.
That is what makes photographs so special to me.
They preserve more than what we looked like. They preserve a feeling.
This is what I love about photography, whether I'm photographing a senior session, a couple, a wedding day, a family, or a simple season of life. The goal isn't just to create images that look beautiful. It's to create photographs that bring you back to the way that moment felt.
Don't Wait for the Perfect Time
I think a lot of people tell themselves they will have photos taken later. When they lose weight. When they feel more confident. When they have a better outfit. When life is more exciting. When there is something worth celebrating.
But sometimes, you wait—and then months go by. Then years.
And suddenly, you realize that the season you were in was worth remembering too.
You don't have to wait for life to become more exciting to document it. You don't have to wait until you feel perfect. You don't have to have a big reason.
You can take photos because you want to remember this version of yourself. You can take photos because you love the person you're with. You can take photos because your family is growing. You can take photos because you are celebrating a season of life. Or simply because you want to capture the now.
The now is worth remembering.
Ten Years From Now, You May Be Grateful You Did
Ten years from now, you may not remember exactly what you wore. You may not remember the little details of the day. You may not remember what you were worried about.
But you may look at a photograph and suddenly remember.
You may remember the way you felt in that dress. You may remember the person standing beside you. You may remember the way you laughed. You may remember who you were at that point in your life.
And for a moment, you get to go back.
That is why I believe photographs matter.
Not because every photograph has to be perfect. Not because you have to look a certain way. But because your life, exactly as it is right now, is worth remembering.
So get in front of the camera. Let yourself laugh. Let yourself be a little awkward. Let your hair move in the wind. Let yourself be seen.
Because one day, you may look back at these photographs and realize that the moment you almost didn't document was the one you are most grateful to remember.
And I would be honored to help you remember it.
